GROUP 37: Music Video 2007/8

Monday, 24 September 2007

This video used a very simple idea, of just filming the main key character who was just filmed from a variety of angles. They kept their colours to a minimum which I thought worked very well as it was quite a dull song they didn't need to use really interesting locations.
I also like the way they used messages, as the words where spoken, because you do not see this much and as there wasn't much happening it made the video look quite abstract.

The lighting was good, and it enhanced the black white effect.

Last Year Music Response - Naive

Performance
Singing was not of a high enough standard
Very slow lacked emotion, was to samy and unexciting
Lipsynhing was good but Youtubes play speed slowed the match to the song down

Editing
Lack of effects
No instruments
No Jumps

Camerawork
Most of the shots were in frame
Good variantions of shots
Setting was to bland and again to samy

TEACHER FEEDBACK

You have lots of good ideas, I think the key thing you need to do is be very focused on what effect you are trying to achieve with your video and decide if you want it to illustrate the lyrics in the song or to go for a more abstract effect interweaved with some performance footage.

Rumble Strips Lyrics - Girls And Boys In Love Lyrics

Just ’cause you think it,
Don’t make it so,
Drop you to drink it,
Won’t let you go.

CHORUS
Plenty of girls and boys in love,
Plenty of girls and boys in love.

Move to the city,
Loose all your heart,
She weren’t that pretty,
You ain’t too smart.

CHORUS
Plenty of girls and boys in love,
Plenty of girls and boys in love.

But ain’t it a shame,
Woaaah oooohhh,
Ain’t it a shame,
Woaaah oooohhh,
Ain’t it a shame,
I’ve let you go,
Plenty of girls… and boys in love.

Plenty of girls… and boys in love (3x)

Influence

This particular video was very influential on our idea because it shows a couple engaging in different activities together, however their attitude towards each other is more negative. When on the other hand our video will have a much more positive feel, and different activities the couple will be more likely to enjoy sharing in each others company.

Our Chosen Idea

Girls and boys in love - THE RUMBLE STRIPS

Our main concept is to create a music video suitable for all ages, it will be a light hearted and happy piece that will engage the audience, to a friendly song, that follows a tale of love, with a twist to the ending.

As a group we finally decided to combine some of our ideas together to create a music video with a variety of scenes, locations and activities. Our opening will show the lead singer with his guitar with closeups of the guitar to make the image look slightly obscured. Throughout the video the couple (which is the lead singer) will be doing lots of different activities, which will resemble laughter, happiness and love. They will look like an ordinary couple, but there is actually a twist in the tale. The video will show the lead singers experience of love with a girl as well as just showing the general public from all ages together and in love. The story line will relate to the song throughout, by having lots of varied shots and sub story lines. The music video will end with the lead singer waking up and finding out that all his experiences with the girl of his dreams ... were in-fact a dream.

Most of the video will be shot in daylight hours, on two locations. One at home, where the scenes such as, making cakes and brushing teeth etc can be shot, as this shows an intimate side to the couple when they are at home alone.
The second location will be around Cambridge town, we wanted to get shots of the couple trying on clothes in shops, and basically just having a laugh with one another .
Non of the shots will contain an explict content to the relationship, and there will be no confrontational scenes between the couple, as again this keeps a really feel-good nature to the video.

The use of camera angles in the video, will be kept fairly simple, and we will use the angle, which we feel best suits the activity the couple will be doing.
Such as if we were to have a scene with bikes, we would follow the couple from behind , or when they are making cakes we might use a birds eye point of view.

Brainstorming

Idea 1.

One of our first ideas was to have a camera following a boy on a bike, as he cycles from a village to a city. As the song progresses, a story builds up of the boy meeting a girl, as this fits with the words in the song.

It will be a happy, light hearted video, as this will suits the tempo of the song.

The colours will be bright and most of it will be shot in daylight as this also suits the feel of the song.

The video will cut to other scenes, such as; guitar playing, lip syncing, drawings that come to life on screen, stick man dance, shots of people holding hands and being in love in different places, different locations ( hair dressers, restraunts, ect)

Idea 2 :

The opening will show, a boy ( the singer), and the girl he loves, being together and doing lots of different things together all the way throughout the video ; pillow fights, water fight, picnic, making cakes, cleaning teeth together, on the rowing boat, picking flowers, shopping ( coming out of the changing rooms wearing silly things). Then at the end of the video, he wakes up to find it was all a dream.

The colours will also be bright and happy.

Haze effect for the dream

/or have an old fashioned video effect, as though the singer is looking back on an old relationship he had with a girl.

Idea 3

A band set up, in a random place, such as a warehouse or field. Most of the film would be videoing the band as this is a more performance based idea. We would need to find a band with 5 intruments.

Idea 4

Another idea, was to have a camera following couples as they grow up, eg, young children, teenagers and old people around cambs.
